Aquifer Information System |
The Coastal Plain hydrogeologic framework is the foundation for a GIS-based aquifer information system. The Maryland Coastal Plain Aquifer Information System (MCPAIS) incorporates additional geographical and tabular databases from the USGS, MGS, and MDE. The system currently contains layers that display water-use, water-level, and water-quality information. Several tools have been developed to explore the data, including one with the ability to query the elevations of any aquifer at a given location. Progress: Maryland Department of the Environment has been using the MCPAIS since 2008 to help in the decision-making process for groundwater allocations, and is currently using release version 2.0. Future goals include the adaptation of layer data to a server environment to allow for public access via the internet. Explore the interactive map below to see an example of the type of data that can be found in the MCPAIS. The map displays the structure and hydraulic properties of the Aquia aquifer.
